When Barak Obama took office in ’08, I really thought he’d be “the one” to tackle the mass incarceration problem we have in America, the lopsided racial population in prison, and the compound affect this has on our communities.
Call me naive.
Yet, I envisioned a leader who’d recognize the impact he could have on inner city youths, so many raised in fatherless, single-mom homes, just like him.
As an apostle of hope and change, an example of just how far a man of color can get in today’s America, he has fallen short.
Busy is as busy does!
Critics … and possibly the Prez himself … will whine in protest of just how busy he is.
When, in fact, he can’t afford to ignore this one.
It’s no joke that the United States has the highest documented incarceration rate in the world with a prison population largely comprised of men of color.
This is a colossal problem for all of us … in particular the black community.
Statistics are staggering.
Mr. Community Organizer: Put Down Those Golf Clubs
And compounding the problem with privately run prisons … that have reportedly kicked back to politicians … is a crime on top of a disaster.
If Barak Obama could only put his golf clubs down, just occasionally, he’d have, five hours to give to the community who made it all possible for him!
The rounds usually take about five hours, including motorcading back and forth to the course,” ….
“According to statistics compiled by CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who keeps close tabs on the president’s activities, Obama played 30 rounds in 2010, 28 rounds in 2009 and two this year, including today,” as it appeared in an article written by Keith Koffler, March 5, 2011.
So while Americans rot in prison, our Presidents plays golf.
What would life be if we had a President who gave back… instead of handed out.
What would life be like if we had a President who put HIS money where HIS mouth is?
By the way, this post doesn’t even tackle the growing at-risk juvenile population that so desperately needs our intervention.
