Those Amber alerts plastered along our highways, visa vie electric signage has to stop. According to the Amber Alert site these important messages were created to help law enforcement agencies locate missing abducted children.
What we see today instead is a gross dilution of the seriousness of these charges as most of those child abduction allegations along our highways speak more to a flurry of family matters and family court matters gone awry. Dad or Mom gets pissed at the judges ruling (possibly with just cause) and loads the child in the car for a trip to granny’s ‘till things blow over. Of course, that’s a no-no but it isn’t cause for an entire community to be on the lookout for child that is not abducted in its truest sense.
I’ve been married…and divorced. So I now how ugly these things can get. Furthermore, so many of the judges, in my observances, do not have the backbone needed for the job so ridiculous rulings are more common than not and why I’ve renamed Family Court to….
Anti-Family Court.
There I said it. That’s my take on the Family Court system.
If you think for one second that the judge gives a flying you-know-what about your child, then you’re living in fantasy land. Your case is just a number AND job-security for the judge. Remember, if the judges calendar is not full, and if his/her courtroom has too many “dark” days, then they’re out of work. Period. City budget cuts are for real.
I’ve sat in courtrooms too many collective hours to think otherwise. I’ve literally watched judges avoid making a ruling and reschedule the matter instead of taking the extra 10 minutes to complete the case. Why? Another date means another court appearance for you. Which means more money to your attorney (likely the judges colleague) and justifies the need for court personnel like the judges assistant, court stenographers, bailiff’s, administrative departments, the list goes on and on.
So a lot’s riding on you returning to the courthouse again and again … and again. And, like in any business, once you get a “hot” one, you do whatever you need to do to keep them coming back for more and more … and more. Which is why most cases run for years when solutions could be had in minutes.
In other words, family disputes are great for business!
So when I see an electronic Amber Alert sign on the highway, my prayers go out to the family who, I’d bet 20 bucks, is running from a court ruling instead of the real reason why the Amber Alert was created which is to find and protect a child who has been abducted.
If you cry wolf too many times, no one’s listening. So if the unspeakable happens, if the real deal takes place, if an innocent child is abducted, I won’t notice, and, unfortunately, I’d, more than likely, blow it off as just another family squabble that is none of my business.
The following paragraph is taken from the AmberAlert.gov site and probably something that should be posted at the police stations:
The AMBER Alert™ Program is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies, and the wireless industry, to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases. The goal of an AMBER Alert is to instantly galvanize the entire community to assist in the search for and the safe recovery of the child.
It says “most serious.” The Amber Alerts we see today must stop if they want to gain community galvanization. And then the next thing to work on is the court system.
Who wants to commission me to sit in courts and review judges, their rulings, their actions, and the way they address us little people. I promise to be impartial with my findings posted on www.BogusRulings.com
Let’s make judges accountable. I’m ready when you are!
