Lieutenant Colonel Allen West, aka Representative West of Florida’s 22nd congressional district, made reference recently that I had bet would stir controversy.
Yet it barely made the press. Crickets!
And what was that gutsy, voice of experience reference Rep. West made?
Well, he’s made many. The one I’m shining a light on today is West’s reference to the Democrat party. And their government programs. Declaring them the “21st century form of slavery”.
Johnson’s War On Poverty
We’ve been stuck with the programs of Johnson’s War On Poverty era five decades now. And the results are in (and have been for a long time).
The war that Johnson waged on poverty is a bona fide flop.
Costing billions upon billions. Destroying the family unit. In particular the African American household. For what?
Are government programs the problem?
A recent study conducted by Rasmussen concluded that only 20% of Americans believe anti-poverty programs work. In contrast, 49% of American adults find government programs increase the level of poverty.
“This marks a steady increase in the number of those (Americans) who think (government) programs cause more of the problem they’re supposed to solve.”
Unfortunately, government intervention offtimes comes at a steep price. A beholden price. Not just to the tax payer but to the recipients of said “benefits,” as well.
Rose colored glasses
No I’m not talkin’ about people with severe issues. America is a beautiful nation. We care about the indigent, handicapped, destitute.
But if, according to those polled by Rasmussen, government programs perpetuate poverty, then why do we have them? Where’s the fix?
The fix comes when we open our eyes.
If politicians throw money at you, you better believe they’re expecting your vote. The Dems market themselves the party for the people.
But are they really?
Poverty runs deep and wide
Rasmussen also reports that “Last fall, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated that 14.3% of Americans fall below the federal poverty level.”
Well, if the Dems are the people’s party, why is 1/6th of our fine nation below poverty level? (Please dont say gridlock.)
With another 6th just above that. And another 6th in the barely-making it level. That makes half the population in America in poverty to barely-making it.
The evidence is all around you.
Could it all be about votes
Having spent most of my voting years as a staunch Democrat, drinking the kool aid, believing it was up to me to rescue the downtrodden, I now apologize for that.
‘Cause I see it for what it is.
Politicians willing to throwing money at you (and themselves) in exchange for votes.
Thus, Allen West speaks his truth.
Government programs are the “21st century form of slavery”. A harsh system one could easily get lost in if dare to enter.
Look, J.K. Rowling’s, author and creator of Harry Potter, one of the world’s wealthiest woman, was on welfare.
Isn’t it grand that we can lean on governnment during rough times. And then cycle out of the system?
That should be the modus operandi. Generational welfare, which is what the war on poverty created, sucks. For everybody.
Government programs are enslaving. Controlling. Stiffling.
What say you?
